How medical devices manufacturer Tuttnauer protects patient and personal-data safety

How medical devices manufacturer Tuttnauer protects patient and personal-data safety

In running a cloud-based portal to link its smart medical equipment, the firm has also implemented third-party end-to-end cybersecurity vigilance

The advent of smart and connected medical devices has offered benefits such as real-time health monitoring, tailored treatment options, and improved access to medical care.

One medical equipment manufacturer of such connected devices, Tuttnauer, runs a secure Software-as-a-Service portal that offers a comprehensive dashboard for monitoring and maintaining healthcare fleets of autoclave and related medical devices.

However, the increased connectivity of such IoT equipment also escalates the risk of cyber threats, necessitating robust protection to ensure the efficacy, patient privacy, patient-data integrity, and even patient safety linked to the use of smart medical devices.

To address this critical factor, the firm integrates a cloud-based software-based security agent into the device software for embedded protection, to provide end-to-end protection against cyber threats. This advanced technology shields against diverse cyber threats, such as access control breaches and memory corruption, without compromising device performance. The software agent continuously monitors device activities to promptly identify and mitigate threats, preserving the privacy of health information and the integrity of linked medical devices. Other benefits include: compatibility with FDA and European CE regulations and subsequently-reduced needs to recertify devices frequently with health authorities around the world.

The firm’s head of software, Shlomi Sivia, said: “Cybersecurity is essential for protecting our devices, ensuring our customers’ business continuity, and meeting regulatory standards… (and this) signifies our commitment to top-notch security standards, reinforcing the healthcare industry’s trust in us.”

According to Miri Ofir, Research & Development Director, Check Point Software Technologies, the firm providing the cybersecurity software agent: “The health sector is known to be highly targeted by malicious actors. We are witnessing a relentless series of reported incidents that have caused significant disruption. Medical vendors and manufacturers must protect their devices, ensuring the protection of patient data and safety.”
