Medtronic CISO Stephanie Franklin-Thomas also joined the stage for the first keynote at .conf24. A global medical technology company, Medtronic has deployed Splunk solutions for:

  • Patient flow and medical device security. Splunk provides solutions for healthcare organizations, including patient flow management and medical device security. These solutions help improve operational efficiency and enhance security in healthcare settings.
  • Centralizing patient data and AI monitoring. Splunk has been used to centralize and monitor patient data, medical examinations, and the results of AI treatments. The integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning facilitates diagnoses during medical examinations.
  • Data monitoring, search and analysis. Splunk allows organizations to monitor, search through, index, and correlate data from various sources. It enables easy search and analysis of big data, along with setting up relevant alerts, reports, and visualizations.
  • Integration with other tools. While Splunk serves as the “database” and “search” component of a Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) system, additional tools like Splunk Enterprise Security handle the “security” and “event management.” External integrations, such as Proofpoint TAP, VirusTotal, and TrendMicro Deep Security, enhance Splunk’s capabilities.

According to Franklin-Thomas, the company has plans to use AI to expand the above capabilities.

“Disruption in business is unavoidable. When digital systems fail unexpectedly, companies not only lose substantial revenue and risk facing regulatory fines, they also lose customer trust and reputation,” said Splunk’s Gary Steele. “How an organization reacts, adapts and evolves to disruption is what sets it apart as a leader. A foundational building block for a resilient enterprise is a unified approach to security and observability to quickly detect and fix problems across their entire digital footprint.”
