According to Synology’s 2025 Digital Transformation Trend Survey, nearly 90% of businesses in Southeast Asia have already invested in digital transformation — not just as a plan, but as a strategic commitment.
However, challenges remain as 85% of organizations are still in the early stages. While more than 55% have experienced cyber-attacks, only one in five expressed confidence in their ability to recover.
As businesses accelerate their digital transformation, the rise of AI has further amplified both opportunities and challenges. While businesses embrace the benefits of AI, this evolution also introduces growing challenges in data privacy, regulatory compliance and operational resilience.
In this new era, cyber resilience is emerging as the foundation of sustainable growth and operational continuity. Celebrating Synology’s 25th anniversary recently, Thachawan Chinchanakarn, Head of Southeast Asia at Synology, said: “Cyber resilience is now the top priority for IT leaders worldwide, essential for business continuity and enterprise competitiveness.”
As businesses accelerate digital transformation and strengthen data protection against emerging cyberthreats, Synology continues to support them with over 14 million installations, 25 million endpoints protected, and two million cameras connected.
Strengthening business resilience
Companies are expanding investments in AI and automation while continuing to view data protection and recovery as top priorities.
In response to these market demands, Synology unveiled the PAS7700, an NVMe SSD dual-controller storage solution featuring active-active dual controllers and end-to-end NVMe technology.
It also previewed new features in DSM 7.3, designed to enhance both security and storage efficiency. Among them, the newly introduced Synology Tiering automatically places frequently accessed “hot” data on high-performance storage while moving less frequently used “cold” data to more cost-effective tiers—boosting management efficiency.
Earlier this year, Synology launched ActiveProtect, a purpose-built backup appliance for enterprises protecting diverse workloads across multiple sites. With various models ranging from 8TB to 140TB capacity, it meets the needs of diverse enterprise scenarios while delivering immutable backups, air-gap capabilities, and regulatory compliance support to provide a robust defense against evolving cyber threats.
Synology also showcased its expanded video surveillance ecosystem, encompassing cameras, storage, and management software for both on-premises and cloud deployment.
The latest lineup introduces AI-powered video analytics that can detect people, vehicles and intrusions in real time, while C2 Surveillance, Synology’s cloud-based management platform, enables secure and flexible deployment across sites. All components integrate seamlessly with Synology Systems to enable centralized monitoring and efficient management across multiple sites.
Case study: I Love Taimei
As I Love Taimei expanded its footprint throughout Singapore, it faced the critical challenge of managing surveillance footage and insights efficiently. Its previous surveillance system presented significant hurdles as each store’s footage is independently managed.
Central to these challenges is the lack of user-friendly management features. Without the ability to centrally monitor or quickly obtain footage from their stores, response to critical events could be delayed or completely missed.
As I Love Taimei continued its expansion, the need for more sophisticated video analytics is clear. Advancing beyond basic surveillance functions is the key to making informed decision-making and optimizing operational efficiency in an ever-evolving business landscape.
I Love Taimei deployed Synology with assistance from ACE Peripherals. To address the need for multi-site surveillance management, the Taiwanese food chain deployed a total of 18 NASs, one in each store for local video recording including one used as an AI-powered NVR. These NAS were then connected to a 5-bay DiskStation in the headquarters as a centralized host server.
This setup enabled I Love Taimei to project footage from all branches onto three large screens at the headquarters using Surveillance Station, providing a centralized overview and significantly enhancing their monitoring capabilities. To generate business insights from their flagship store, I Love Taimei used a DVA series as an NVR in the store for AI-powered video analytics.
Benefiting from AI-powered video analytics
With the DVA series, the company leveraged AI for people counting to monitor traffic in each branch. As the Surveillance Station platform offers a range of built-in tools for organizations to build third-party integration and custom features, I Love Taimei is now able to integrate footage data with third-party systems including POS systems to retrieve transaction-related footage and analyze customer engagements.
This advanced analytics functionality provides valuable insights into customer behavior and operational efficiency, enabling data-driven decision-making and enhancing overall business performance.
Ensuring a reliable destination to store mission-critical information and insights is the backbone of business operations. I Love Taimei centrally stores and archives their branch footage to a 5-bay DiskStation at the headquarters on a regular basis.
The NAS not only serves as the host to centrally back up all branch footage, allowing simple and centralized monitoring but as I Love Taimei continues to grow, it can also be flexibly expanded up to 15 bays by connecting with extra two Synology 5-bay expansion units to accommodate their growing needs of large data archive.
The system not only provides a strong foundation for stores to build generative insights through AI analytics and third-party integration but with unmatched scalability, the business can easily add additional servers to CMS (Central Management System) when they have new branches, making it a future-ready option that helps centralize cross-site data management while they grow and allows businesses to empower data-driven decision-making.
