Brunei’s Baiduri Bank leverages cloud authentication platform for corporate and consumer divisions

Brunei’s Baiduri Bank leverages cloud authentication platform for corporate and consumer divisions

Integrating authentication across the group is helping to improve customer centricity while boosting scalability and security

As its existing authentication vendor was sunsetting, Baiduri Bank, the largest conventional bank in Brunei Darussalam, has on 14 Aug 2024 been cited as undertaking digital transformation of its digital banking software to build upon a cloud-based authentication infrastructure.

Taking advantage of the opportunity to implement a single trusted authentication source for both its consumer and corporate-banking platforms, the bank — which is part of a financial conglomerate including Baiduri Finance and Baiduri Capital — will be able to reduce process complexity with standards-based, scalable solutions covering the entire authentication process.

The bank’s Chief Information Officer, Simon Hansman, said: “Banking is about people, and meeting their needs… we believe in striking a balance between the use of technology and customer experience. Baiduri Bank is proud to be the first bank in Brunei to leverage cloud technology to enhance our customers’ experience.”

Another consideration was that the bank preferred to work with an existing vendor already familiar with other aspects of the group’s corporate authentication needs. This led to the adoption of that vendor’s multi-channel, multi-tenant solution encompassing  mobile authentication and transaction signing with robust security protocols, hardened through standards-based cryptography. Featuring customizable security policies to protect communication channels, the solution is supported by third-party security testing and independent audits.

Integrating the solution seamless across both the consumer and corporate platforms helps to deliver a better user experience, while simplifying compliance, deployment and cost management. Currently, all Baiduri Bank customers are authenticated via the integrated platform.

According to Lena Abdelahad, Vice President, Authentication Business Unit, HID, the firm supplying the cloud-based authentication solution: “HID is thrilled to partner with Baiduri Bank to enhance its authentication and security infrastructure. We are committed to providing solutions that help protect banking customers’ identities, all while reducing complexity… as part of our… solutions that meet the evolving needs of the industry.”
